Our 2016-2017 Board Members
Peri Wiley, President
Peri is a senior majoring in Biology with Mathematics and Marine Science minors. She loves scuba diving, traveling, and animals and is hoping to get into vet school to become a wildlife vet. She joined MACS her freshman year and really got involved due to her love of marine life and the people in the club.
Abby Gritis, Vice President
Abby is a senior at U of A, majoring in Conservation Biology with the School of Natural Resources and the Environment and a minor in Marine Science. She is a Tucson Native, but that doesn't stop her love for the ocean. She hopes to work with education and outreach and the ocean. Her dream job would be teaching children about sea otters (her favorite animal).
Ricardo Sosa, Treasurer
Ricardo is currently a sophomore and the treasurer of MACS. He is a Tucson native and joined MACS in the first semester of his freshman year. He is pursuing MIS and Operations Management degrees with a Marine Science minor. He has a passion for the ocean, history and athletics overall (as shown by his obsession with all things Boston sports). Ricardo's favorite marine animal is the wandering albatross.
Andrew Paton, Secretary
Andrew is in his fourth and final year at the UofA double majoring in Molecular/Cellular Biology and Biochemistry with a Marine Science minor. This is his fourth and final year in MACS as well and he knew from the start that he would love the club. He has always been interested in the environment and oceans and would hopefully like to figure out a way to do marine work with at least one of those majors. Right now, his plan for that is to go to grad school studying algal biology and biofuel.
Fernanda Almanza, Outreach Coordinator
Fernanda is a junior at the University of Arizona. She is studying Conservation Biology and Marine Science. Her goal is to work at a zoo or aquarium educating the public about our planet's beautiful ocean and how to best protect it.
Mandy Becker, Communications Coordinator
Mandy is a senior student at the University of Arizona studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) and English with a minor in Spanish. She loves reading, writing, hiking in Tucson and learning more about the ocean. She appreciates the way MACS is involved in the community and hopes to use what she has learned through club outreach events to educate her community about ocean conservation and sustainability in the future.
